These are some of the most beautiful eggs i have ever seen. Their eggs decorated for spring in the Ukrainian folk art tradition. Look how these artists used line, shapes ( both organic and geometric,) color, Value, Space, not to mention the principles: pattern, repetition, emphasis, variety and harmony. They are just so WOW! We can do our own eggs using oil pastels as our beeswax for resist, and liquid water color for our dyes! But first lets learn how Ukrainian eggs were made
Water Color Paper
Liquid Water Color and a deep cookie sheet
Oil pastels
Pencils
Students draw a gigantic egg on their water color pencil using a very light touch with the pencil.
They devided their egg into sections with curved lines.
Then each section fill it with a repeated design or pattern using geometric or organic shapes.
Using color pastels to fill in sunflowers, diamonds, spirals makes the eggs much more colorful. When artist feels enought pastel is on their paper, they then bring it to the cookie sheet and lay it down flat. Its almost like dying real eggs. When they lift their egg up the color adheres to the uncolored paper and the design is bright as day! Just Beautiful.
