Meet Artist Marc Chagall              Painter of Dreams

Marc Chagall was born in the Russian Jewish village of Vitebsk in 1887. People who lived there were very poor and led hard lives. The happiest times were during celebrations like Jewish holdiays and weddings.Marc's parents worked very hard. His father was a fish seller and his mother owned a small grocery store. He had seven sisters and one brother. Family was greatly valued, and he had lots of aunts and uncles. His favorite uncle was Uncle Neauch, who played the violin. Marc imagined that his head would come off and float through the air as it followed the fiddeler. He had such imagination.

Marc Chagall said, "I lived expecting a Miracle."  Arian produced this ballet bringing his life and painting alive. He was born into a Jewish family he grew up in a Russian village.  He knew he was an artist at a young age and his family was supportiv. Chagall lived through two world wars. He married the love of his life, Bella, and had a beautiful daughter. They came to America escaping the Nazi occupation of Paris.  Sadly, Bella past  away in America.  The following is a tribute to his Jewish upbringing, village life.
